Parish Jottings - February 2014

The lower part of the parish was standing in water after the river Thames overflowed its banks and turned Mill Meadows into a vast duck pond. Fortunately no house in Henley was flooded, but sandbags were standing by. Meadow Road and the River and Rowing Museum were also flooded. The recent flooding is the result of what has seemed to be endless rain over the past many months...

Christmas 2013

Advent was a period of milder than usual weather, during which all the usual church services took place. Our annual carol service took place on Sunday the 22nd of December. On Christmas Eve the popular Christingle service was held, and, as always, was well-attended by both children and adults. That night the Reverend Duncan Carter officiated at the midnight Communion service to celebrate the first communion of Christmas day...

Churchyard Clean-up

The churchyard was bristling with people on Saturday morning, 19th October. It was the occasion of our annual Churchyard Clean-up and there were with lots of jobs to be done. Fortunately the weather remained mainly fine and, although the grass was wet, it did not deter grass-cutting around the graves and in all the awkward corners which are out of the reach of the mower.

At the end of the morning the churchyard looked much tidier and the work party dispersed pleased in the knowledge that it had done a satisfying and worthwhile job...
