The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations

The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations

Last month several street parties were held in the parish to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen. The Queen's actual birthday is on 21st April, and she also has an official birthday which is celebrated at a ceremony called Trooping the Colour which takes place in the summer months when the weather is more reliable.

On 9th September 2015, the Queen became the longest-reigning British monarch, when she surpassed the reign of her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, of 63 years, 216 days. The Queen is Head of the Church of England, a position that has been held by all British monarchs since the church was founded by Henry VIII in the early sixteenth century.

For those who were not attending other Queen's 90th birthday celebrations, the vicar, the Reverend Duncan Carter, held a commemorative lunch at the vicarage on Sunday 13th June. About twenty people attended the gathering. It was intended to hold the lunch in the vicarage garden, but unfortunately, the weather turned out to be inclement. Nevertheless, an equally jubilant time was had indoors by all attending.
