Parish Jottings - August 2017

Church Maintenance

Essential maintenance work has been carried out in the church over the past month. The large patch of crumbled plaster on the south wall of the nave has been re-plastered; also, a smaller patch of wall plaster in the Parish Room has been repaired. In addition, a large area of wood block flooring, which was affected by dry rot, by the North Entrance door, has been removed and replaced by screed, and the carpet tiles relaid. Externally, some repointing work has been carried out to the church walls, and to the churchyard store.

Our Neighbourhood Policeman

On 28th May, one of the Henley Area Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s), Graham Davey, joined our congregation, as part of his approach to community policing. He intends to join us again on future occasions, periodically. During the morning service, Graham gave a short talk about community policing. The police station for the Henley area is in Sonning Common which is approximately in the middle of the area. Currently the team comprises one inspector, one sergeant, two Police Constables, and eight PCSO’s.

Although PCSO’s do not have any powers of arrest, they can patrol the streets, attend incidents, deal with parking matters, anti-sociable behaviour, and reassure the public on any problems that they raise. Should you have any neighbourhood concerns which may require police advice, or involvement, you can telephone 101 and speak to one of the police officers about the matter. Of course, needless to say, if there is an emergency, telephone 999. For further details of the Henley LPA and policing team, go to its website on www.police.uk/thames-valley/N379/team/.
