Word for Today

Word for Today

In his sermon on Sunday 11th February, Duncan preached on ‘The Transfiguration’, which is described in Saint Mark’s Gospel, Chapter 9 verses 2-9. This event took place when Jesus had taken three of his disciples up into the mountain. God’s voice spoke to the disciples saying, “This is my son whom I love, listen to Him". Duncan reminded us that we also should listen to Jesus’s teachings, by reading our Bibles every day. A good way to set about this is to read the free Quarterly booklet “Word for Today”, in which a brief narrative, generally based on everyday life situations, is given for every day of the year, together with suggestions for Bible readings. If you don’t already read the publication, pick up a copy next time you are in church.

Pancake Time at the Vicarage

Pancake Time at the Vicarage

Do you call it ‘Shrove Tuesday’, or, ‘Pancake Day’? Well, call it what you will, the test is in the eating; it is the traditional feast day, before the start of the forty fasting days of Lent. This year, however, you may have chosen to call the day ‘Pancake Day’, when, on Tuesday evening, 13th February, at the invitation of the vicar, the Reverend Duncan Carter, guests were served freshly cooked pancakes at the vicarage, and all had an enjoyable social evening.

First Meeting of ‘Trinity at Four’

First Meeting of ‘Trinity at Four’

The first Trinity at Four meeting was held on the afternoon of Sunday 28th January, at Christ Church. Some sixty adults attended, together with about thirty children, it was a great start to this ambitious undertaking by Henley churches. We hope this good start is an indication for a thriving ‘tomorrow’s church’ to come.
