The churchyard was bristling with people on Saturday morning, 19th October. It was the occasion of our annual Churchyard Clean-up and there were with lots of jobs to be done. Fortunately the weather remained mainly fine and, although the grass was wet, it did not deter grass-cutting around the graves and in all the awkward corners which are out of the reach of the mower.

At the end of the morning the churchyard looked much tidier and the work party dispersed pleased in the knowledge that it had done a satisfying and worthwhile job.

Saint Jude’s Day Hurricane

Early on the morning of 28th October the forecast fierce hurricane turned out to be nothing of the sort and little damage was done in the Henley area. However, Holy Trinity church did not come out of the storm unscathed. A tall rowan tree near the south-west corner of the church was blown over and toppled against the church wall, with the upper branches coming to rest against the church roof. Fortunately there was no damage to the church building. When the tree was removed, it was found that the trunk of the tree was rotten inside.

Saint Jude was one of Jesus’s disciples and is known as the patron saint of lost causes. Jude is the fourth shortest book in the New Testament.

Parish Jottings in Full Colour

You can continue to blame the church photocopier for the indistinct reproduction of the photographs if you like, or you can be one step ahead and view the photographs in full colour on the church website.
