Parish Jottings

Parish Jottings - August 2018

Hot Church

There has been no complaint about the church being too cold during the recent Sunday morning services. On the contrary, there have been complaints about the church being too hot. It seems that you just cannot please everybody! However, the church has no plan to install air conditioning units at present; perhaps there are alternatives such as having open-air services. Please give any further ideas to the vicar, churchwardens, or P.C.C. members.

Hot Parish

For many people, the coming of hot weather is like the coming of Christmas, they worship it. However, not all people take kindly to high temperatures. During the last week in June, and most of July, the parish has sizzled in the indiscriminating hot sunshine. Many parishioners’ gardens have become parched and baked hard, under the sun’s powerful rays and plants have withered away.

Henley Regatta

Henley Regatta

If you did not go to the regatta this year and you were at home in Henley, you most probably heard the event taking place in the distance. The regatta was accompanied by hot and sunny weather, with temperatures fluctuating around 30°C (86°F) at times, and temperatures in the sun were up to 40°C (104°F) or more. Shade was at a premium.

Many tens of thousands of visitors flocked to Henley during the week to watch the 179th annual regatta boat races. Some 565 crews from all over the world took part, and many records were broken.

Henley Regatta

Those who saw the firework display on Saturday night would have been notably impressed. The aerial display lit up the town, and was visible from many homes throughout Henley.
