More Cream Teas Please!

So popular was Sarah Cook's cream teas event last year that she held another one on Saturday 10th July. Many people attended the occasion and the weather was fine and warm. Sitting at tables in the peace and quiet of the churchyard provided a relaxing time for us and the opportunity to converse with old and new friends.

Defunct Church Vacuum

Having been a good church worker over many years, the old church vacuum came to the end of its life some weeks ago. We thank Peter and Sally Jones for providing the church with a brand new vacuum which is a welcomed addition to the church workforce.

Gideons Talk

On Sunday 3rd July, another talk about the Gideons International was given by Christopher Pritchard during the morning service. The aim of this worldwide association is to give people the opportunity to read the bible for themselves, in order to discover God in a personal way. An important part of the work of the Gideons is to place Bibles, God's Holy Word, where they are likely to be picked up and read, in places such as hotels, care homes, student accommodation, and prisons. However today, in what is supposed to be a Christian country, there are some institutions that ban bibles from their premises to save upsetting people of other faiths. Sadly, our local Gillott's School is one of those institutions that has followed this practice. In the 2011 census, of those who stated their religion, in England and Wales, 87% were Christian.
