The West Country for Anne

The West Country for Anne

On Sunday 22nd June at the morning service the church said goodbye to Anne Dixon, a long-standing member of Holy Trinity church, who is leaving Henley to go and live in Somerset near to her daughter Sarah’s family with four grandchildren. Anne’s other daughter Joanna and family with two grandchildren live in neighbouring Wiltshire so they also will be not be far away for visits to Anne’s new home. The Reverend Duncan Carter presented Anne with a farewell gift which comprised a garden token with which to buy something that she would like for the patio of her new flat. Duncan expressed the church’s sorrow to see her go and thanked her for all the support she had given to the church over so many years.

Anne and her husband Peter moved to Henley in the 1960’s during the incumbency of the late Reverend John Clarke. Both Anne and Peter were doctors and worked in local communities. Prior to his death in 1995, Anne’s husband Peter was a churchwarden and Trinity church Youth Club leader having founded the church’s ‘Hench Club’.

Anne has become a familiar figure in church and has regularly read the lessons at Morning Services and for some twenty years has been a verger. In more recent years Anne has been a member of the ‘Trinity Knit & Stitch Group’ which makes blankets and other items for charities. Anne is also a long standing member of the Greys Women’s Institute.

Anne will certainly be missed in many Henley circles and we give her our best wishes for a happy life in her new home.

On Trinity Sunday 15th June at the morning service the Trinity banner was displayed at the front of the nave. As the writing on the banner is in Latin, some churchgoers may not have previously appreciated the significance of this doctrine. The English translation is shown above.
